Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows are typically given by the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche’s designated Acharyas (senior teachers). Acharya Moh Hardin will be giving these vows. If you are interested in taking this vow, please talk with your meditation instructor.
The refuge vow marks the decision to commit oneself wholeheartedly to the Buddhist path and to further one's practice and training. It is the formal commitment to being a Buddhist, following the example of the Buddha Shakyamuni, his teachings (the dharma) and joining the community (sangha) of fellow practitioners.
Taking Refuge is a step common to all Buddhist traditions. In our tradition, it further signifies taking refuge in our particular Kagyü, Nyingma and Shambhala lineages of teachings and teachers, as represented by an Acharya (senior teacher) of our spiritual leader the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
The vows are open to family and friends of the refugee as well as the Shambhala community.
