* There are no prerequisites and all are welcome to attend.

Please join us for a weeklong meditation retreat in the beautiful environment of The Margaret Austin Center in Chappel Hill, Texas (http://macenter.org/). There you will have the opportunity to deepen your meditation practice and sharpen your direct experience of the dharma.

In this Buddhist retreat, the main practice will consist of traditional meditation, employing techniques that are appropriate to the Buddha’s Three Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma. Our talks and discussions will also be organized according to the teachings of Three Turnings. This will deepen understanding of the Hinayana and Mahayana path.

We will take full advantage of the beautiful environment with practice in nature. In the evenings you will have the opportunity to practice yoga, so if you would like to do that, please bring a yoga mat.

We will eat our meals in the shrine room in oryoki style (www.shambhala.org/oryoki.php).  Everyone will have a ROTA assignment to help keep our environment clean and uplifted.  Meals and ROTA are all part of the practice of mindfulness.

We are delighted to have two wonderful Texas teachers leading the retreat:

Shastri Linda Mockeridge is a senior teacher whose involvement with Shambhala began in 1995 when she walked off the street into a Level I and never left. As a clinical social worker for 29 years, 10 years as a youth minister and 8 years as a elementary school teacher, she has had extensive experience with all age groups and the criminal justice system. In 2010 she was appointed as Shastri in San Antonio and the South Central Region.

Billy Boyar is a senior teacher who began sitting zazen and studying Zen Buddhism in 1975.  He attended a talk by Trungpa Rinpoche in 1985 and has been committed to the Shambhala Buddhist path ever since. Aside from his role as teacher, he has been the Director of the Austin Center and co-director of Austin Dharmadathu (what we used to call the Buddhist path). He is currently on the Council of Casa Werma, a retreat center in Mexico. He has a Ph.D. in Literature, and he taught literature and composition for 30 years. He has two grandchildren and a wife, also a practitioner, who does her best to keep him honest.
