Who We Are

Austin Shambhala is part of a global community of people who seek to enrich their life through meditation and study of the buddhadharma. Shambhala Vision is rooted in the principle that every human being has a fundamental nature of dignity and basic goodness that can be developed in daily life to inspire compassionate, sustainable, and just human society. Inspired by the teachings of Shambhala founder Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, we seek to create enlightened society through a path of study, meditation, and contemplative arts that helps us work with our mind to cultivate kindness, bravery, and genuine dialogue.

We offer teachings in Shambhala Buddhism, traditional Tibetan teachings in the Nyingma and Kagyu lineages, and explorations of spirituality to anyone seeking to know better who they are and what we are doing here together. The Austin Center offers support to individuals seeking to create and sustain the practice of mindfulness meditation throughout all stages of one’s life.

We are committed to the acceptance and welcoming of all practitioners, including those who wish to study and practice with the current lineage holder Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, other teachers in our lineages, or no specific teacher at all. Students are given the option to design their own unique path of study and meditation with complimentary guidance from senior community members. We support each other as a sangha along whichever path we choose.

More information on possible resources and paths of study is coming soon.

Everyone is welcome!
