Contentment in Everyday Life (Weekly Class Version)

Contentment can be hard to find. Much of the time we search for contentment in things, achievements or relationships. Contentment in Everyday Life provides an exploration of genuine contentment, the foundational views of the Buddhist Hinayana teachings, and meditation in action for daily life. Through the gentle precision of meditation practice, we can learn to appreciate ourselves and our simple human experiences, free from self-agression. Difficult emotions and the challenges of life can be met with curiosity, steadiness and humor.
No prerequisites: Contentment in Everyday Life is an entry level program and is a prerequisite for taking all subsequent Everyday Life classes, beginning with Joy in Everyday Life.
Texts: Readings will be recommended from the following texts, which are available for purchase at our center and at local and online stores, and also can be found in our library. These readings will supplement your learning but are not required.

Note to students taking "Contentment in Everyday Life” and/or “Level 2”in 2017:
In prior years, we have offered only one CIEL and one Level 2 class. This year we will experiment with offering two of each:
- One CIEL class on the weekend (Jan 28-29) and another on 5 Tuesday evenings (Mar 28-Apr 25).
- One Level 2 class on 5 Tuesday evenings (Feb 21-Mar 21) and a weekend Level 2 on Dec 9-10.
The result of this is a very tight calendar between January and May. If you want to move into Level 3 or JIEL during 2017, please consider the dates of all these classes and plan out your year. A person who wants to take Level 2, followed by CIEL, followed by JIEL -- who can only take Tuesday night classes -- will have to take classes every Tuesday night between Feb 21 and May 30. So you might try to take either CIEL or Level 2 on the weekend if that is an option for you.
