We live with continual disappointment. We may be disappointed in our parents, disappointed in our country, disappointed with our teachers, disappointed with ourselves and our life as a whole. We long for a truth that feels authentic, a truth that touches our heart with such power and sacredness that it cannot be denied.

In Shambhala Training, Level 1: “The Art of Being Human,” we point to this heart-felt truth with the words “Basic Goodness.” This Goodness is the fundamental nature, the highest potential, of all human beings. It is like the sun shining behind the dark clouds of sorrow, hopelessness and cynicism. Even though unseen, it has always been shining, and it has never been stained at all by the darkness. This is the light we long for. It is our own true nature.

“The Art of Being Human” initiates a secular path of spiritual training, and it is open to everyone. It relies on the practice of meditation to help us relax into our own deeper nature in order to bring the direct experiences of bravery, confidence, clarity and compassion into our daily lives.

You are most welcome to join us.
