Mindfulness and awareness are fundamental principles that we cultivate throughout the Buddhist path of awakening and liberation.

Mindfulness and awareness are natural aspects of our awake state of being so do not need to be acquired. Cultivating them means uncovering what is naturally here. This cultivation brings about the two-fold benefit, benefit for oneself and benefit for others.

A weekthun—a weeklong group retreat of study, contemplation, and meditation—is an ideal vehicle for understanding, uncovering, and deepening our experience of being mindful and aware. This retreat experience then carries over to enrich our everyday life.

Please read the below information carefully to understand the requirements and price structure ("Standard Price" vs. "Patron Price" vs. Promoter Price vs. Philanthropist Price).

Requirements

*Covid 19 vaccination

Due to the persisting Covid virus threat, we are requiring all participants and statff to be completely vaccinated for the Covid 19 virus and show proof of vaccination upon request.  Exceptions will be made on an individual, case-by-case basis.  To request an exception, please contact Lynette at [email protected]

*Covid Test

Due to the on-going persistence of Covid, we require all registered participants to be able to show proof of a negative rapid Covid 19 test performed within three days of the retreat's inception.

*Masks

All participants are required to bring masks and wear them as directed by the teachers.

Retreat Center

For the Weekthun retreat this year, we reserved the entire West 1077 Guest Ranch of the Contemplative Resource Center (CRC) outside of Bandera, TX in the beautiful Texas Hill Country (about one hour north of San Antonio)!  For information about the Ranch and its facilities, including pictures, please see here.

Teachers

Our teachers this year will be South-Central Regional Acharya Moh Hardin and Shastri Linda Mockeridge!  Due to the lingering Covid situation, especially long-distance travel, Acharya Hardin will be joining us virtually.  Shastri Mockeridge will be on site.

Price Structure

We have four retreat fee options listed here, Standard $675, Patron $775, Promoter $950; Philanthropist $1250.  These are based on accommodation preference only.  These four fee options all include accomodations, meals, use of the 1077 West Ranch facilities, and a refreshingly deep soak in the dharma (and the Ranch pool, weather permitting).

All accommodations are cabins and each cabin includes beds with bedding, a bathroom with shower, closet space, and heating and cooling.  Participants choosing to share a cabin will be grouped by their gender identity, with each cabin filling on a first come, first serve registration basis.  The fee options are:

Four to a cabin : $675 (marked above as "Standard Price")

Three to a cabin : $775 (marked above as "Patron Price")

Two to a cabin : $950 (marked above as "Promoter Price")

One to a cabin : $1250 (marked above as "Philanthropist Price")

There is a limited number of three and four-bed cabins available, so please register early to secure your preference!  If we are unable to provide you your preferred cabin type, we will contact you with remaining options.

If you are a snorer, we kindly suggest that you share a cabin with other snorers or register for a single cabin.  To put your name on a list for a "snorers cabin" (by gender), please also contact Lynette at [email protected]

We ask that you pay in full to reserve your space.  For this retreat to pay for itself (break even), we require fifteen participants.  If we do not have fifteen participants registered by October 17th, 2021, we will cancel the event and provide full refunds.  Likewise, full refunds for your cancellation will be available up to one month before the retreat (October 17th, 2021).  Any cancellation by registrants made after October 17th, 2021, but before October 31st, 2021 are refunded at fifty per-cent.  After October 31st, we will be unable to issue refunds.

Finanacial Assistance

The Region is unable to offer scholarships for this retreat, but we encourage you to inquire at your local centers for assistance.  Please also consider such resources as the Offering Bowl.  The retreat cost this year is much less than in weethuns past.  The Region is pricing this year's retreat at break-even costs for both the Contemplative Resource Center (CRC - West 1077 Guest Ranch) - which is the 15 participant accommodation requirement - and the Region - that part of the costs that go toward non-accommodation facility use (housing for teachers and cooks), honorara, and catering fees.

____________

Please note that a week-long retreat, such as this one, is a prerequisite for some Shambhala programs.
